Match the test to the icing environment

Temperature, liquid-water content, droplet size, wind speed, exposure time and substrate temperature all influence ice formation. Test conditions should reflect the asset's real winter environment.

Measure the surface and the ice response

Water contact angle and roll-off provide initial surface information. Ice-adhesion strength, freeze-thaw durability and weather exposure show how the coating behaves after repeated use.

For conductors, blades and moving parts, the evaluation may also need erosion, flexibility or aerodynamic checks.

Plan a representative comparison

Use the same substrate preparation, film thickness, cure conditions and icing procedure for the treated and control samples. Record failure modes as well as headline values.
